Job SummaryOn behalf of our client from the audit assurance and advisory firm, we are looking for the Tax Manager to lead client engagements for tax services, including planning, executing, directing and completing the engagement. This role’s holder will make sure that all tax assignments are discharged to the highest standards with the aim of offering exceptional value to clients and the firm; nurturing high-performing people and teams, leading and supporting them to create the positive impact that matters; as well as setting the trajectory to deliver remarkable client service.
Primary Duties & ResponsibilitiesEngagement Management
Responsible for, statutory and regulatory compliances under Direct and Indirect Taxes applicable to the client from time to timeReview of monthly tax liability computed by team and application of control assertions while reviewingResponsible for reviewing tax provision and other schedules by prepared by the team membersCompetent to analyze and draft reply to the queries and notices by the Tax Revenue AuthorityResponsible to monitor tax amendments or changes in existing law and timely communicate the effects and applicability to the stakeholders and also train the team for better clarity and understandingIdentify and implement opportunities for process improvement in computation of tax and filing of returnsResponsible for managing internal/external and statutory audits pertaining to tax compliances and audits by TRAManage the relationship with consultants and clientsSupport business teams with the right taxation advice for day-to-day operationsManage communication with clients and regulatory authorities on tax related matters or unreconciled transactions identified during performance of actual workDevelop appropriate systems/process to track refunds/ensure visibility on taxes paid/tax liabilitiesDevelop and implement strategic tax efficiency for all necessary taxes, like WHT, VAT, etcWorking knowledge of Tally 9.0 required and system enabled checks and controlsEnsuring integrity and completeness of financial records & compliance with financial control standardsImplement new advantages into operations after getting it authorized by the Managing and industrial practiceProvide technical support on taxation issues and support team in tax accounting and related book entriesAssist Tax & Compliance Manager on new measures to minimize tax losesCoordinate with tax consultants/lawyersPrepare trackers for all compliances on monthly basisGive trainings to Junior on various laws and regulationsClient Relations
Understand the clients’ industry, key performance drivers, business trends, and emerging technical and industry developmentsMaintain relationships with other engagement teams and monitor team progress against plan and drive performance as requiredEstablish a good working relationship with the officers and staff of every clientKeep a close business and social relationship with the clients while keeping independence in appearance and in fact as required by the Code of Ethics of CPAsKeep clients aware of significant development in accounting standards and other areas that affect their businessesAttend to clients’ queries and requestsExhibit professionalism and good conduct in dealings with clients, prospects, and non-clientsPeople Management
Develop team members by encouraging individuals to think for themselves and take responsibility for their contributions to the team. Conduct timely performance reviews and provide performance feedback/training. Develop technical expertise –both functional and industryEnsure that every in-charge and staff assistant’s time is utilized productively and efficiently during and after engagementsProvide timely feedback to assistants about their job performance, i.e., their strong and weak points and how they can improveAccomplish and discuss Performance Review Reports (PRRs) with Engagement In-charge immediately after every engagementReview and approve staff assistants’ PRRs, which are accomplished by Engagement In-chargesParticipate in an annual performance review process / deliberations on the overall performance of in-charges and staff assistantsAdministrative Functions
Ensure that clients are billed on a timely basis and prompt payment is achievedSubmit an accurate time report in a timely mannerExpected to have shown an on-going commitment to their personal and professional development through continuing education and developmentEnsure that in-charges and assistants working on his engagement submit accurate time reportsApprove reimbursable expenses, overtime and time reports of in-charges and staff in a timely mannerReview the time charges regularly to ensure that these are within budget and to provide explanation for those exceeding budgetAssist partners in pursuing new clients or jobs with existing clientsAssist the partner in collecting receivablesReview reports and deliverables of other engagement teams when requested in accordance with the quality control policies and procedures of the Firm QualificationsQualified Chartered Accountant / Certified Public Accountant / ACCA with an experience in Tax department for 5 yearsSemi Qualified with experience of more than 7-8 years will also be consideredAt least 5 years’ relevant experience, with 3 years or more in a managerial roleStrong background and experience of handling tax casesExcellent project management, analytical and problem-solving skills Expatriates from Kenya or other east African countries are strongly encouraged to apply.
