Job Summary
We are seeking to recruit a strong and registered Quantity Surveyor with highways/road construction experience responsible for ensuring the financial health of constructionprojects by effectively managing costs, contracts, and resources.

Responsibilities
  • Cost Estimation: To prepare accurate and detailed cost estimatesfor construction projects by analyzing project specifications, drawings, andscope of work. This involves evaluating materials, labor, equipment, and otherresources required.
  • Budgeting: To develop and manage budgets for construction projects,considering various cost factors and ensuring that the project remainsfinancially viable.
  • Tendering and Procurement: To prepare tender documents, manage thebidding process, evaluate contractor and supplier bids, and recommend the bestoptions based on cost, quality, and suitability.
  • Contract Administration: To develop and manage contracts betweenthe client and contractors, ensuring that all parties understand their rolesand responsibilities. Administer contract changes, variations, and claims.
  • Contract Approval and Payment Protocol: Within the complex landscape of the construction process, theQuantity Surveyor shoulders a weighty responsibility. It is now mandated thatevery contract and pricing arrangement receive explicit, written approval fromthe Managing Director. This endorsement is the culmination of thoroughdeliberations with the Project Engineer, underscoring our commitment tounwavering quality, steadfast adherence to project timelines, and an unwaveringdedication to financial prudence.
  • Timely production of certificates: To prepare and issue certificatein time for various projects performed by the role hold a pivotal position inensuring seamless project implementation.
  • Effective Communication: To communicate and issues to the ManagingDirector promptly and in writing, regarding any discrepancies that could impactissuance of certificate in time.
  • Preventing Delays: To have a proactiveapproach in addressing challenges will help prevent delays in paymentcertificate issuance, promoting project efficiency and client satisfaction.
  • Value Engineering: To identify opportunities to optimize costswithout compromising quality, such as suggesting alternative materials,construction methods, or design changes which can archive the same objective ata lower cost.
  • Cost Control: To continuously monitor and control cost. Thisinvolves tracking expenses. Identify cost-serving opportunities and providingregular reporting. Project expenditure. By analyzing cost variation, you canassist in resolving any financial issues that arise.
  • Risk Management: To identify and assess potential risks that couldimpact the project's cost or timeline. Develop strategies to manage andmitigate these risks, maintain effective communication with stakeholdersthroughout the process.
  • Progress Reporting: To provide regular reports to the ManagingDirector and the Management about financial status highlighting any significantdeviations from the budget / Bill of Quantities (BOQ) and explain the reasonbehind them.
  • Documentation: To keeping accurate records and providing report tothe Managing Director and Engineers Concerned is essential. You will beresponsible for maintaining relevant documentation such as tender reports, Costtrackers, Project report, Stoats, Consumption and Final Accounts.
  • Measurement and Quantification: To accurately measure and quantifyconstruction work to facilitate accurate payment assessments, progresstracking, materials ordering, and material consumed as per Bills of Quantity orwritten instruction from Project Engineer.
  • Final Account Settlement: To ensure that all project costs areaccurately recorded and accounted for, leading to the final settlement ofaccounts with contractors and stakeholders.
  • Dispute Resolution: To address any disputes or discrepanciesrelated to costs, quantities, or variations, providing expert advice andassistance in resolving conflicts.
  • Collaboration: To collaborate with architects, engineers and otherprofessionals to ensure that project goals align with budget constraints andfinancial objectives.
  • Benchmarking: To utilize historical project data and industrybenchmarks to guide cost estimates and assess project performance.
  • Sustainability Considerations: To evaluate and incorporatesustainability aspects into cost assessments, such as energy-efficientmaterials and construction methods.
  • Compliance: To ensure that all cost-related activities adhere torelevant laws, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Continual Learning: To stay updated on industry trends, newconstruction methods, and cost-saving techniques to enhance your expertise


  • Requirements
  • Qualified with a BSc in Quantity Surveying. Must be registered by Tanzania Architects & Quantity Surveyors Registration Board
  • Minimum 5 years' experience working on Infrastructure projects, including Highways/road construction is also essential
  • Extensive experience with both private and public sector clients on major projects
  • Commercially aware you’ll work well as part of a team and demonstrate the people management skills to support and mentor where required
  • A knowledge and understanding of the component parts of a project and overall construction costs coupled with a competent knowledge of a range of project procurement options
  • Great interpersonal skills, an ability to communicate effectively (both internally and with Clients), and a willingness and determination to progress your career quickly
  • IT skills, such as Office, Outlook, CAD measure, Cost Planning software
  • Good organizational skills
  • Self-motivation and keen to become an integral office team member
  • An ability to make you own informed decisions and work unsupervised when necessary
