Day 1: Arusha to Tarangire National Park

Day 1: Arrival and overnight
Arrive at the Kilimanjaro International Airport. You will be met at the airport and transferred to the hotel in Moshi for your overnight.


Day 2: Trek start date
Camping
Your day starts early with breakfast and a briefing. You then start to climb gently but consistently through attractive forest that shelters a variety of wildlife.


Day 3: Trek up to the Second Cave
Camping
Your morning walk is a steady ascent up to the Second Cave. En route, you will enjoy superb views of Kibo and the eastern ice fields on the crater rim.


Day 4: Trek up to the Third Cave
Guest house
Your continuing steady ascent takes you up to the Third Cave. Closer now, the eastern ice fields on the crater rim continue to draw you upwards. On this day, be careful to notice any signs of altitude sickness.


Day 5: Trek from Third Cave to Kibo Hut
Camping
Today, you hike up to the Kibo Huts at the bottom of the Kibo crater wall, and this is where you join the popular Marangu Route. Plan on doing your hike early in the day, then resting in preparation for your final ascent. Prepare your equipment and warm clothing for your summit climb, then turn in early.


Day 6: Trek from Kibo Hut - Uhuru Peak - Horombo Hut
Camping
Wake at midnight to a light breakfast, then prepare for your summit ascent.
You do the beginning of this climb in the dark with headlamps or flashlights. It will be very cold until you start descending, so you will need all of your warm layers. This is, by far, the most difficult part of the trek. Slowly slowly, or, “pole pole,” and an optimistic attitude will get you there!


Day 7: Trek from Horombo Hut - Madara Hut - Moshi

Wake as usual, pack, and descend through the moorland to the Mandara Huts to Marangu gate then Moshi town.

Day 1: Arrive Moshi
Arrive in Moshi. Tonight you can enjoy dinner and have a briefing about your trek.
Day 2: Mt Mkubwa Camp
After a hearty breakfast you will meet your guide and be driven to Lemosho Glades starting your trek. Today you will be hiking through the stunning forest glades to Mt Mkubwa Camp. On the way keep your eyes peeled for wildlife like elusive Colubus monkeys.

Day 3: Shira Two Camp
Today we have a slower paced hike across the Shira Plateau through the heather and moorland. It is a scenic trek to our next campsite, Shira Camp 2.


Day 4: Barranco Camp
We continue through heather and moorland, crossing scree slopes and a beautiful river valley.


Day 5: Karanga Camp
We enter the desert zone before we tackle the imposing Great Barranco Wall. Our reward at the top is views of the stunning Heim Glacier.


Day 6: Barafu Camp
A short trek on compated scree and steep areas over rocky slabs through the alpine desert

Day 7: Mweka Camp
You’ll arise just before midnight, have a quick snack and begin hiking through the early hours of the morning for the last big push to the summit. The hike starts ascending through heavy scree towards Stella Point on the crater rim. Here you can have a break and if you’re lucky with the weather, see one of the best sunrises you’re ever likely to experience.

Day 8: Descend to Mweka Gate. Return to Moshi
On the last day you’ll trek back down to the Mweka Gate and National Park headquarters to sign the register and receive a summit certificate. We’ll then transfer back to Moshi where services end.
