Kilinge Adventures - Moshi, Tanzania

Tarangire National Park, one of the hidden jewels of Tanzania. This park measures 2,600 sq km’s and boasts a concentration of wildlife second only to Ngorongoro Crater. It features an impressive amount and array of birdlife and plant life.

DAY 1 – Machame Gate to Machame Camp
Elevation (ft): 5,400ft to 9,400ft
The drive from Arusha to the Mount Kilimanjaro National Park Gate takes about 1.5hours from Arusha and 30minutes from Moshi. We continue a short distance until we reach the Machame Camp.

DAY 2 – Machame Camp to Shira Camp
Elevation (ft): 9,400ft to 12,500ft
after breakfast, we leave the glades of the rain forest and continue on an ascending path, crossing the little valley walking along a steep rocky ridge, covered with heather, until the ridge ends. Time for rest, dinner, and overnight at the Shira campsite.

DAY 3 – Shira Camp to Lava Tower to Barranco Camp
Elevation (ft): 12,500ft to 13,000ft
From the Shira Plateau, we continue to the east up a ridge, passing the junction towards the peak of Kibo. Shortly after the tower, Although you end the day at the same elevation as when you started, this day is very important for acclimatization and will help your body prepare for summit day.

DAY 4-Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp
Elevation (ft): 13,000ft to 15,000ft
After breakfast, we leave Barranco and continue on a steep ridge passing the Barranco Wall, to the Karanga Valley campsite. We continue up to the Barafu Hut. At this point, Here we make camp, rest, enjoy dinner, and prepare for the summit day.

DAY 5 – Barafu Camp to Summit to Mweka Hut
Elevation (ft): 15,300ft to 19,345ft (and down to 10,000ft)
Very early in the morning (midnight to 2am), we continue our way to the summit between the Rebmann and Ratzel glaciers. Later in the evening, we enjoy our last dinner on the mountain and a well-earned sleep.

DAY 6 – Mweka Camp to Moshi / Arusha
Elevation (ft): 10,000ft to 5,400ft
After breakfast, we continue the descent down to the Mweka Park Gate to receive your summit certificates. A vehicle will pick you at Mweka gate and drive you back to hotel in Moshi / Arusha.

Day 1: Marangu Gate (1,800m/5,905ft) to Mandara Hut (2,743m/9,000ft)
Leave Moshi / Arusha at 8am for Marangu Gate. After completing gate registration, begin your Kilimanjaro trek. Walk along a narrow trail through the rainforest of Kilimanjaro for most of the hike,have lunch on the way day one’s halfway point. All of Marangu’s huts have beds with mattresses.

Day 2: Mandara Hut (2,743m/9,000ft) to Horombo Hut (3,720m/12,200ft)
After breakfast, leave Mandara Hut and Kilimanjaro’s forests for Horombo
Hut. Most of the day’s hike will be through Kilimanjaro’s moorland, a rocky landscape with desert-like plants. Horombo can accommodate up to one hundred hikers and many more porters, cooks and guides.

Day 3: Horombo Hut (3,720m/12,200ft) to Mawenzi Hut (4,600m/15,100ft) to Horombo Hut (3,720m/12,200ft)
Day three is an acclimatization day. Spend the afternoon and evening relaxing at Horombo.

Day 4: Horombo Hut (3,720m/12,200ft) to Kibo Hut (4,750m/15,580ft)
Leave Horombo Hut after breakfast to hike through the moorland and alpine desert of Kilimanjaro’s upper altitudes. Reach Kibo Hut around 3pm to rest and prepare for your midnight climb.

Day 5: Kibo Hut (4,750m/15,580ft) to Summit (5,895m/19,340ft) to Horombo Hut (3,720m/12,200ft)
Elevation Gain: 1,145 meters, 3,760 feet Reach Horombo Hut in the afternoon and enjoy your last night on the mountain.

Day 6: Horombo Hut (3,720m/12,200ft) to Marangu Gate (1,800m/5,905ft)
After breakfast, finish the trek with a descent to Marangu Gate. Your last hike on Kilimanjaro is a beautiful one, passing through Kilimanjaro’s cloud forest. Our vehicles will be waiting at Marangu Gate to take you back to Moshi or Arusha. You will be able to buy t-shirts and sodas at the gate.
